C-97 Angel Of Deliverance The Cold War warmed up in 1947 with the Soviet blockade of occupied West Berlin. The world stood at the brink of the war but the western powers were determined to supply Berlin by air and not risk a ground assault on encircling Red Army forces. As months passed the struggle to supply food and fuel to the embattled population continued until late in the campaign.
